University of Cyprus Medical School
Participation 2015
(In collaboration with Filios Charalambides Architects)
In the ongoing and perpetual development of the campus where one school succeeds the other, with the erected buildings slowly slowly completing its final image and being activated by people - users, the medical school must read and record all the parameters of the site and be the natural and harmonious development of the campus giving the best possible answers to the functionality of its building program.
The building is composed of simple, pure geometric volumes, which with their relation and their proportions aim at the harmony of the whole, the best possible relationship with the ground and its adaptation to the inclination, the best possible view, the best possible orientation and the right correlation of functions.
A transverse volume is located at the level of the belvedere to house the deanery/administration, with direct access from it, leaving the square to run under the building of the deanery creating a semi-open space at the level of the square.
The unobstructed, smooth and free flow of students to quality and multi-functional spaces of movement both inside and outside the building is one of the most important parameters in the design of the faculty. The school receives the flow of students from the level of belvedere and allocates it to the spaces of teaching, research and deanery. At the same time, the flow of traffic goes down to the level of the square, where through alternate paths and various spatial experiences, it goes back to the school's premises while it spreads to the open spaces of the biological school where it connects through it with the belvedere and the social activities area.
