First prize 2008

(In collaboration with Filios Charalambides Architects)

The building of the Paphos Municipal Hall is a building open to the public, a center of cultural and social events.

The building is composed of simple pure geometric volumes, which in their relation and their proportions seek the harmony of the whole, the best possible relationship with the ground and its adaptation to the inclination, the best possible view, the best possible orientation and the correct correlation of the functions.

The incoming lobby with its transparency and the release of the three sides make the building lighter with less building mass.

The building is treated as an object sculpture in the space, prominent, which is composed of two building blocks and opens in the two squares. The composition of the building attempts to achieve harmony, to the measure of man, through the proportions of the volumes, the relationship of the individual with the whole, the sincere-true expression of its materials and the modern technology in the constructions, the processing of architectural details and openings, the clear expression of its public character, its content and its function.

Architectural Competition for the construction of the new City Hall of Paphos
Architectural Competition for the creation of the cultural village of Leba

Participation 2016

Lemba as a Cultural Village and as a place of artistic creation is recorded in the collective memory, mainly due to the long-standing presence of the art laboratory and the School of Stas Paraschos.

The building of the faculty emerges as a sculpture in the space, prominent, with different images from every viewing angle. It is created by a fluid, folding, white surface that creates and draws the space containing the functional units of the faculty either as part of the shell (painting rooms) or as autonomous blocks - cubes (Secretariat, workshops of artists, ceramics, auxiliary spaces) .The building itself is formed as a limit that comes to compose and organize the space.

The preserved buildings are treated with respect and are preserved but
at the same time they fit into the whole composition with the folding surface surrounding them, covering them with supernatants or intersecting them slightly to create new original old-new coexistence relationships.

Architectural Competition for the construction municipal offices next to the City Hall of Limassol

Participation 2011

The building of the municipal offices next to the Limassol Municipal Building is charged with the additional role of linking the history of the city with modern age, standing right next to the existing buildings of the town hall and discharging as much as possible the densely built web of the city.

The central idea of our proposal moves at the same time on two parallel axes:

  • The inclusion of the building in the densified tissue of the area in a way that discharges it and acquires a dialectical relation with the other buildings of the built environment.

  • The second axis of the central concept is the recall and transformation of diachronic images of the sea and thus the identity of the city as Limassol has been recorded in the collective memory as a port of Cyprus and has been identified with the sea.

Thus the building seeks to materialize the intangible space that is included among the masts of the sailboats as they are normally lined up on the dock.

The white blinds open, close and folded in a similar way as sailboats.

The building is composed of a simple geometric volume that bridges and covers the ground floor and seeks the harmony of the whole with its individual proportions and materials.

The use of adjustable blinds of perforated aluminum sheets forms the outer skin of the building, which acts as a climatic converter, as a privacy filter and as an element that creates movement and alternation in the facades of the building.
