Architectural Competition for the construction municipal offices next to the City Hall of Limassol
Participation 2011
The building of the municipal offices next to the Limassol Municipal Building is charged with the additional role of linking the history of the city with modern age, standing right next to the existing buildings of the town hall and discharging as much as possible the densely built web of the city.
The central idea of our proposal moves at the same time on two parallel axes:
-
The inclusion of the building in the densified tissue of the area in a way that discharges it and acquires a dialectical relation with the other buildings of the built environment.
-
The second axis of the central concept is the recall and transformation of diachronic images of the sea and thus the identity of the city as Limassol has been recorded in the collective memory as a port of Cyprus and has been identified with the sea.
Thus the building seeks to materialize the intangible space that is included among the masts of the sailboats as they are normally lined up on the dock.
The white blinds open, close and folded in a similar way as sailboats.
The building is composed of a simple geometric volume that bridges and covers the ground floor and seeks the harmony of the whole with its individual proportions and materials.
The use of adjustable blinds of perforated aluminum sheets forms the outer skin of the building, which acts as a climatic converter, as a privacy filter and as an element that creates movement and alternation in the facades of the building.
